BA, Hons (Psychology). Child Centred Play Therapy Clinical Program (Play Therapy Australia)
Cassie is a child-centred play therapist who is passionate about working therapeutically with young people and families. Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based method of working therapeutically with children, using the child’s natural language; play. Cassie’s journey with play therapy began during her Masters of Professional Psychology and while practising as a provisional psychologist at Murdoch Child Psychology Clinic, where she worked with children experiencing neurodevelopmental challenges and psychological disorders. Cassie’s areas of specialty include neurodevelopmental disorders, delays and challenges (E.g., ASD, ADHD, GDD), social, emotional and behavioural challenges, trauma, and difficulty adapting to life changes (E.g., school issues, new siblings and family crises).
Research supports the effectiveness of play therapy with children aged between 2-11 experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural and learning challenges. Cassie’s approach to treatment is authentic and deeply empathetic while drawing upon neuroscience and evidence-based practices to support the unique needs of each child. Cassie’s CCPT follows the approach whereby it is child-centred, trauma informed, neurodiversity affirming and takes a strengths-based approach. Cassie follows the belief that children possess within themselves everything they need to overcome their challenges. She believes play therapy provides children with a safe space and safe therapeutic relationship to process, heal and grow through the difficulties they are facing.
Along with her experience as a Provisional Psychologist at Murdoch Child Psychology Clinic, Cassie was also a senior case manager and counsellor at UnitingCare West in the Children and Family Therapeutic Services, where she used CCPT with children who experienced trauma and abuse. Cassie further developed her skills during her training with the Child Centred Play Therapy Clinical Program through Play Therapy Australia in 2016. Since then, she has practised as a play therapist based in Perth, as well as travelling to Darwin, First Nations communities in the Northern Territory, and internationally in East Timor where she specialised in working with children who have been impacted by trauma.
Cassie puts her heart and soul into her work and is passionate about always treating children with the respect and kindness they deserve.
